From Friday, June 12 to Wednesday, July 22, 2026, the Kulturhaus Schwanen is showing "Durchbruch", an exhibition by the young painter Nico Birk on the second floor. The vernissage begins on Friday, June 12, at 7 pm with Free admission with an artist talk & musical accompaniment. Under the label "Young Art in the Swan", the exhibition provides an insight into painting that makes inner states, ruptures and possible transitions visible.

Nico Birk, 25 years old and born in Esslingen, studied at the Freie Kunstakademie Nürtingen from 2020 to 2025 and was a guest student at the ABK Stuttgart with Christian Jankowski. He worked as an assistant for Anette C. Halm, now works as an art teacher and curates for Art28 in Tübingen. His previous works were more figurative in nature. With "Durchbruch" (Breakthrough), he now presents a position that further condenses his visual language and opens up spaces for projection, irritation and self-questioning.

Birk works with oil on canvas, sometimes also unframed on canvas. His paintings are created from a rough sketch, an initial expressive application of paint and a slow consolidation of the individual elements. Characteristic are a distinctive brushstroke, muted ochre and grey tones as well as deliberately placed strong colors. This results in paintings that appear calm and at the same time tense.

In terms of content, the works revolve around experiences that are often not easy to talk about: Loneliness, grief, inner distances, but also the question of how new perspectives can emerge from cracks. The exhibition title "Breakthrough" thus refers not only to motifs and compositions, but also to a possible view of the future. The exhibition is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and also in the evenings during events. It is closed on Sundays and public holidays; different opening hours may apply during school vacations.
