In his second, very personal book, Ofer Waldman takes a look at failed utopias, at a childhood in a country scarred by war, a country seized by madness, changed beyond recognition. Verkämpftes Land is an essayistic mosaic of observations, memories and narratives, present, past, sometimes surreal, which is constantly renewed from intimate, private moments in order not to give up the search for language, for knowledge, for interpersonal perception before the arbitrariness of war.
