Offen sprechen: Solidarische Begegnungen zum Welt-AIDS-Tag

In the organizer's words:

"HIV? Is that even an issue anymore?" Thanks to modern medication, HIV can be treated very well today. People with HIV can lead a long, healthy life with timely treatment. And: with successful treatment, HIV is not transmissible. Nevertheless, old images, fears and prejudices persist. Where do the stigmas surrounding HIV come from? What remains of the AIDS crisis in the collective memory - and how does it continue to affect queer and heteronormative lifeworlds today?

We invite you to talk openly - about activism, memory and loss. Together, we would like to use creative forms to remember those who have died as a result of AIDS. And we look to the future: to a future of solidarity without fear and exclusion.

PROGRAMME

1 - 5 p.m.
Joint embroidery with Gesine Försterling
Workshop in the atrium
max. 30 participants, for beginners and advanced, click here to register
In the workshop you will learn the basics of embroidery in a playful way and can try out your own small motifs. The course will be led by Gesine Försterling - fashion designer and cultural scientist - who will show how embroidery can be understood as an expression of memory and community. She will make reference to the AIDS Memorial Quilts, a collective art project for those who have died as a result of AIDS. You can also come along spontaneously - but registration helps us with the planning.

4 - 5 p.m.
What does HIV activism mean today? Barbie Breakout in conversation
Lecture in the museum restaurant W66
Barbie Breakout is one of the most prominent drag artists in the German-speaking world and a committed HIV activist. In her performances and contributions, she regularly addresses queer political issues and links them to the reality of her own life. In dealing with often painful topics, Barbie manages to focus on empathy and accessibility. Barbie will discuss with us the relevance and challenges of HIV activism today against the background of her own biography.

5 - 5.30 pm
Dance intervention
on the 1st floor
In the form of a dance performance, the permanent exhibition of the Museum für Kommunikation Berlin will become a cross-genre performance space. The intervention marks the museum as a place of cultural-historical representation and ongoing political negotiation.
