Be young together! Growing old together!

An intergenerational day full of discoveries at Zentralwerk Pieschen: Look forward to/enjoy exhibitions, lectures, the legendary Eurobasar, workshops, performances, open studios as well as musical and culinary surprises for people of all ages.

This May, the Zentralwerk is once again opening its doors and cordially invites everyone to celebrate encounters between the generations. On this day, we want to come together, exchange perspectives, learn from and with each other.
Once again, you can expect a colorful and varied program with activities for young and old.

We all have an idea of getting older, of being old, of what grandmas and grandpas are like and what they have in common. Does this mean ever larger handwriting, physical decline and pop music? What exactly do these ideas look like here and in other regions, what images do we have and how do younger and older people meet within and outside their family contexts?
The OFFENE WERK on 10.05.2026 is dedicated to precisely this topic, these images and ideas and encounters, and opens up the space for coming together, exchanging ideas and being young and growing old together.

Various workshops on the topic of age, the future and identity will invite people to get involved. People of all ages and grandparents can make "I am 60 years old" masks with their grandchildren for the children's street parade on 1 June 2026 and explore the topic of "Growing old well" by fermenting food.

Exhibitions, such as that of the 7th grade of the 145th Oberschule Pieschen and young people from the Hanterei GmbH residential group, who have artistically explored their grandparents, family stories and European references, provide insights into these questions. At the same time, impressions from older generations and contemporary witnesses, including the contemporary witness exhibition on the Sachsenbad in Pieschen and lectures, broaden the perspective on the topic and the district.

In memory of the historic and legendary €urobasar, which some of you may still know, an indoor flea market will be held this year in the Henny Brenner Hall. In addition to classic jumble sale, there will also be artistic, performative and musical activities.

The storytelling bench of the network for senior citizen work in Pieschen or a rickshaw ride offer another opportunity to get into conversation and get to know representatives for work with senior citizens.

This year, various associations from the Engagement Stützpunkt will be presenting themselves and you will have the opportunity to get to know them with creative and culinary offers and to get to know each other.

In addition to the performance by the Zentralwerk choir, the whole day will of course be accompanied by other wonderful music, open hands-on activities and studio openings. There will also be plenty of culinary delights on offer.

In keeping with this year's EurOMA EurOPA theme, OFFENE WERK 2026 will close with the performance "The hour at the Bottom" (English with German subtitles) of the TESTART theater production by Teater Nu (from Sweden) and MALTE (from Italy) in the small hall at 19:00! (Premiere is on 09.05.2026 at 20:00 in the small hall).
