When Magnus Dauner creates a rhythm, a universe opens up, characterized by jazz, global pop influences and Indian rhythms. On April 26, 2026, the Ziryab Academy invites you to a masterclass in which he will show how groove, rhythmic language and performance can merge into a musical form of expression. Participants will learn how rhythmic concepts and konnakol techniques can be used to create powerful stage moments and work together to develop how rhythmic structures tell musical stories.
Magnus Dauner is a drummer, percussionist and composer. He is known for his cross-genre playing and his intensive exploration of global rhythmic traditions. After studying jazz at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, he deepened his knowledge of South Indian rhythms (konnakol and mridangam) at the Karnataka College of Percussion in India.
His work is characterized by international encounters and a continuous exchange with global musical traditions. With projects such as Portrait in Rhythm, he creates open sound spaces in which rhythm can be experienced as a unifying, transcultural language.
The Open World Music Stage is a series of events organized by the Ziryab Academy that provides musicians from the region with in-depth training in global pop and contemporary performance. The masterclass with Magnus Dauner comprises two workshops: A half-day workshop will take place on Friday, followed by another in-depth workshop on Saturday morning. A joint dress rehearsal will follow on Saturday afternoon, in which the content developed will be brought together and prepared for the Open World Music Stage on Sunday.
The concert on Sunday will showcase the results of the masterclass. Participants and participants selected by Magnus Dauner will perform together on stage; depending on artistic requirements, the whole group can also take part.
Interested musicians who are not taking part in the Ziryab Academy can also register for the masterclass .
