Phase

In the organizer's words:

The double exhibition Phase at Galerie Thomas Schulte shows works on canvas by Marieta Chirulescu and spatial sculptures by Fred Sandback. Muted and changeable surfaces appear here as thresholds at which perception is formed. Both artistic positions are linked by a processual and intuitive approach that makes it possible to experience the changeable qualities of light and space.

What initially appears reduced or almost empty develops greater depth over time. A dimension of temporality is added: a moment of fleetingness that shakes up supposedly clear, geometric orders. Between the appearance as a surface and the material presence of the banner, attention is directed towards what is actually there and yet easily eludes us, namely space as a subtle and material presence.
