PHOBIA

In the organizer's words:

Guest performance by Wiebke Acton > UK

A high-ranking politician becomes the target of cruel mockery attacks on the Internet. She has an uncontrollable fear of bananas. This makes international headlines. For readers, it's the joke of the week. For the politician, the fear is real.

What does it mean to have panic fear? How can you live with it in our voyeuristic society? PHOBIA combines storytelling, dance and song in a fragmentary narrative style and delves into the web of bizarre fears. Based on the personal experiences of the artistic team and conversations with other sufferers, the piece sheds light on the often underestimated anxiety disorder, how society deals with it and how it is misinterpreted by the media. It shows the struggle for understanding and acceptance in a world in which revealed weaknesses are often punished.

PHOBIA is an interdisciplinary dance-theater performance, driven by a soundscape of live electronics and acoustic instruments. Loud, sensitive and wonderfully absurd.

"can't run, can't fight / can't move, paralyzed / you're frozen in the headlights / of your own stupid mind"
