„Porträt – das ICH im Bild“ – Künstlergruppe Bonn

In the organizer's words:

Artistic portraits react to the flood of images of the digital present, usually with critical distance and playful irony. The multitude of possibilities to create images on the Internet at the touch of a button leads to the realization that perception is not a fixed quantity. It depends on perspective, knowledge and context. In a puzzle game with identities, the artists of the Künstlergruppe Bonn and their guests explore the question of who shapes images of the other or the self in a meaningful way. It should not be forgotten that the portrait is one of the oldest pictorial genres in art history and has already undergone a multitude of meanings and changes. Its changes can be understood as a fascinating mirror of the human self-image, ranging from the expression of individuality to radical self-exploration.

The artists take up the theme with a wide range of artistic media, including painting and drawing, ranging from figurative to abstract representations. Complemented by collages, objects and installations, the focus is on concrete individuals as well as indeterminable personalities.
