The ongoing criticism of the German-Namibian reconciliation agreement shows that the German genocide against the Herero and Nama has not yet been sufficiently addressed. The lack of debate and the absence of serious apologies and reparations continue to strain relations and have led to transnational alliances such as #NoAmnestyOnGenocide. How can decolonial relations between Berlin and Windhoek be established and strengthened in the face of this violent colonial past - relations that recognize memories, strengthen justice and rethink cooperation?
To address these questions, Decolonize Berlin is bringing together voices from civil society, academia and practice under the title "Reframing Relations: Memories, Justice, Cooperation". The event will begin with a performance by poet and author Prince Kamaazenga Marenga and a keynote speech by Sima Luipert, representative of the Nama Traditional Leaders Association. In the subsequent panel discussion entitled "Foundations for Decolonial Relationships", Chief Kasuto, Ovaherero Traditional Authority, Joel Kaudife Haikili from the Creative Industry Institute Africa, PhD student Katharina Hacker and Felix Henn from the #NoAmnestyOnGenocide network will speak.
With: Katharina Hacker (PhD student), Joel Kaudife Haikili (director and producer, CIIA), Israel Kaunatijke (Network #NoAmnestyOnGenocide), Chief Kasuto (Ovaherero Traditional Authority), Sima Luipert (Nama Traditional Leaders Association) and Prince Kamaazenga Marenga (poet and author)
Participation in the event is free of charge. Registration is required at Reframing Relations: Memories, Justice, Cooperation | Decolonize Berlin.
