Ten years after its world premiere, Marc Sinan's music theater KOMITAS returns to the stage. The impressive production tells the story of the life of the Armenian priest, composer and ethnomusicologist Komitas Vardapet - and at the same time commemorates the Armenian genocide of 1915, which is considered one of the first genocides of the 20th century. One hundred and ten years after the beginning of this crime against humanity, RE:KOMITAS 2025 will be performed again to keep the memory alive and draw attention to today's conflicts. Especially since the renewed expulsion of tens of thousands of Armenians from Stepanakert in 2023 and the global aggravation of the political climate to the disadvantage of marginalized groups, the topic remains frighteningly topical. KOMITAS is more than just music theater - it is a plea against forgetting, a call for humanity and an artistic statement against violence and repression. An evening of great emotional and historical depth.
