The artist, author and publisher Rolf-Gunter Dienst (*1942 Kiel) created paintings and graphics, wrote his own writings and also collected art and literature himself. He lived and worked in Paris, Rome, Australia and Japan, among other places, through visiting professorships, scholarships and prizes. His life's work reflects the postmodern art movements of his time. Rolf-Gunter Dienst died in Baden-Baden in 2016, shortly before the opening of his major solo exhibition at Museum Küppersmühle.
