On the Day of Independent German-Language Film Magazines, media makers and interested parties will discuss the past, present and future of independent film journalism. The aim is exchange, networking and cooperation.

Discussion and lecture formats will look at film journalism from different perspectives. The event will conclude with a drink and music.

History and stories of vanished magazines.

The focus is on the question of which historical conditions, themes or concerns lead to the flourishing or fading of magazine projects.

With Gertrud Koch (film scholar, Women and Film and others), Rolf Aurich (author, Deutsche Kinemathek, former Filmwärts) and Rainer Knepperges (filmmaker, author, former Gdinetmao, New Filmkritik).

From the initial idea to the actual magazine, there are many possibilities that need to be explored. From orientation and title selection, legal form and graphic design to distribution strategy - we briefly and concisely illuminate the central steps to founding a print magazine.

Film magazines are an expression of lived film culture. How do cultural differences influence editorial practices? How much sway do film magazines have on public opinion and the formation of canons in other parts of the world?
