Investigator Birzhan is desperate for a promotion - so that he can finally get his family out of the village and into the city. To do this, he takes on unsolved cases from remote villages - cases full of mysteries, without clues, without logical explanations. Birzhan does not believe in the supernatural. For him, every crime has a human perpetrator - or is simply a work of nature. But in one village, babies are disappearing and the old people talk of an ancient curse: Albasty, a dark spirit that devours children. The villagers blame the wolves - but Birzhan suspects that something far more sinister is behind it.
