Shuteen Erdenebaatar Quartet – Jazz

Born and raised in the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar, Shuteen Erdenebaatar began her musical career as a classical pianist. At the age of 16, she discovered jazz and immediately realized that this was her path. As there was no opportunity to continue on this path in her home country, she first completed her bachelor's degree in classical composition and then moved to Munich in 2018 to complete a double master's degree in jazz piano and jazz composition. There, she gradually found her own musical voice - rooted in her love of classical music, elevated by the freedom and interplay of jazz, and shaped by the colors and vastness of her Mongolian homeland. This has enabled her to forge her unique artistic identity between tradition and innovation.

After the release of her debut album Rising Sun in September 2023 on the renowned US label Motéma Music, Erdenebaatar was quickly celebrated as one of the most promising young artists on the European jazz scene. The quartet album received great acclaim from the press and public and led to numerous sold-out international performances in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Ireland, Romania, Italy, Switzerland, France, the Czech Republic, China, Mongolia and Iceland. These include invitations to some of Europe's most important festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival, Jazzahead!, Jazz Baltica, Transition Festival, Reykjavík Jazz Festival and Rockit Festival.

Their quartet consists of international musicians who are also active as independent bandleaders. In addition to the exceptional bassist Nils Kugelmann and the brilliant saxophonist Simon Comté, the dynamic and creative drumming of Amir Bresler and the very personal and captivating piano playing of Erdenebaatar characterize the ensemble sound.
The quartet was awarded the prestigious German Jazz Award 2024 in the Ensemble of the Year category and received the most important Mongolian cultural award Mungun Mod in the Album of the Year category in the same year.

Between Mongolian soul and European sophistication, Erdenebaatar's music is inspired by encounters and travels. Each composition carries a personal touch and leads the audience through an emotionally rich and immersive concert experience.
