The Rhine Phillis Orchestra takes the audience into the world of the Count Basie Orchestra - one of the most famous jazz formations of the swing era. The collaboration between Count Basie and Frank Sinatra left behind a brilliant treasure trove of immortal hits such as "Come Fly with Me" and "It Was a Very Good Year", which the Phillis will perform together with Alexander Gelnhausen.
Alexander Gelhausen has become acquainted with many different styles on his artistic path. He works mainly as a jazz singer in line-ups ranging from duo to big band and as a speaker in various stage programs. He also holds a professorship in jazz and popular singing at the Mainz University of Music.
"Gelhausen has an incredibly appealing timbre, very virile, but capable of all the vocal nuances needed to shape this much-played repertoire. [...] We today can be glad that an expert like Gelhausen speaks to us through the Sinatra flower." (Wolfgang Sandner, FAZ, 25.01.2022)
The musical direction of the evening is in the hands of Stefan Pfeiffer-Galilea, an experienced saxophonist and arranger known for his versatility and creativity.
The Rhine Phillis Orchestra, the jazz orchestra of the Rheinische Philharmonie, is one of the best big bands in the region and is known far beyond the city limits of Koblenz. With its joy of playing and its varied program, the ensemble appeals to jazz fans as well as classical music enthusiasts.
