With Spätschicht, the Gropius Bau presents a free live program every month that is developed in collaboration with artists, collectives or an institution. The November edition will be curated together with artist Ligia Lewis. Further information and all events of Spätschicht x Ligia Lewis will be available here soon.

On the occasion of the exhibition Ligia Lewis: I'M NOT HERE FORRRRRR..., which will be on view at the Gropius Bau from October 16, 2025 to January 18, 2026.

Spätschicht is a monthly, free series of events with an interdisciplinary program ranging from talks, book presentations and film screenings to concerts and DJ sets. It's sometimes loud, sometimes quiet, experimental and may also clash - a space to discover new things and change perspectives.

Ligia Lewis has lived in Berlin since 2013 and has developed a multi-layered choreographic practice that combines performance, live installation and film. She is an artist, choreographer and director and her work can be seen internationally on stage, in galleries and museums. In fall 2023, she opened her first solo exhibition study now steady at the Center for Arts, Research and Alliances in New York City. A show of her work entitled Complaint, A Lyric was presented at HAU Hebbel am Ufer in the same year. In 2024 she was a participating artist at the Whitney Biennial. In 2025, she collaborated with Cullberg, one of Sweden's most renowned dance companies. The resulting work Some Thing Folk premiered at the Berlin Dance Festival in August. Ligia Lewis has received numerous prizes and awards, including the German Theater Prize DER FAUST (2023) for A Plot, A Scandal, the Tabori Award (2021), the Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grant (2018) and the Bessie Award (2017). With her extensive interdisciplinary practice, Ligia Lewis is one of the central protagonists of a reorientation of performance in the context of visual arts and is Artist in Focus of Berliner Festspiele 2025.
