Just as it was 100 years ago, when the young American George Gershwin sat in the cafés of Montmartre, listened to the sounds of the big city and was caught up in homesickness for New York, the other dazzling metropolis. In Gershwin's musical portrait An American in Paris, the roar of engines, honking horns, cancan, Charleston, blues and ragtime merge into an irresistible symphony of the big city, an aural journey so vivid and captivating that you could actually do without your own city trip. The human soul with all its highs and lows, love, despair, death - and then there's "Summertime", one of the most covered arias in music history: the highlights from Gershwin's opera Porgy and Bess take you into the world of great emotions.

Andrés Orozco-Estrada and the Gürzenich Orchestra start the new concert season full of swing and jazz together with two great vocal soloists and the Cologne Citizens' Choir.
