The pre-Christmas atmosphere and festival fever will meet again in 2025: advance sales for the SWR Summer Festival 2026 will start on November 27, 2025. The popular event will once again transform Stuttgart's Schlossplatz into a large open-air stage full of music, film and special live moments over the Whitsun holidays.

Festival kick-off & program highlights

The festival kicks off on Friday, May 22, 2026, with an open-air premiere of Tatort. Two days later on Whit Sunday, May 24, 2026, the audience can look forward to a new edition of SWR1 Pop & Poesie, which will be celebrated with a special premiere show.

Anyone wishing to experience the Federal President's charity concert with the SWR Big Band on Sunday morning or looking forward to the SWR3 evening on May 23, 2026 should be patient: Tickets go on sale in good time during Advent.

The summer festival will conclude on Whit Monday, May 25, with the big ARD Family Day, a colorful day of adventure for young and old, with Free admission all day long.

Open-air premiere: "Tatort - Lucy's Birthday" (May 22, 2026)

A new case for the Stuttgart investigators: a dead man in a quarry, a missing car and two young women whose lives are more closely connected than initially apparent.

Inspector Thorsten Lannert (Richy Müller) and Sebastian Bootz (Felix Klare) quickly find themselves on the trail of the car's owner Dieter Wöck - but the evidence remains thin on the ground. Meanwhile, an unusual friendship grows between the suspect's former employees, Lucy and Hümeyra ("Hummel"). In an exuberant mood, the two make plans that would not necessarily please their former boss.

Author Daniel Nocke and director Stefan Krohmer weave both narrative strands into a gripping crime scene that sheds light on the mystery of the unknown dead man at the end.

SWR1 Pop & Poetry in Concert: "Viva la Vida" (May 24, 2026)

With "Viva la Vida", the new season of Pop & Poesie is dedicated to the big and small moments of life. The show invites you to an evening full of emotions, music and stories:

- dancing with David Bowie
- laugh with Alanis Morissette about the irony of existence
- dream with Lady Gaga on the piano

Actors interpret famous song lyrics in German translation before they are musically brought to life by a live band. A format that has long enjoyed cult status in Baden-Württemberg.
