The Initiative Traumfabrik Treptow presents the Grimme Award-winning film Tamara and welcomes director Jonas Walter and actors Linda Pöppel and Lina Wendel for a discussion.
With this evening, the initiative is continuing its series of events at Kino am Treptower Park. The initiative, made up of cinema employees and local residents, is drawing attention to the tricky situation surrounding the cinema (currently operated by Cinestar).
As Cinestar will cease operations at the beginning of 2026, the building is threatened with years of vacancy and, at some point, conversion into a hotel.
The Traumfabrik Treptow initiative is campaigning to preserve the building as a cultural and community venue.
About the film (original with English subtitles):
Mother and daughter, both from the GDR: one has experienced it, the other has not. Tamara was born in 1990. Like many of the post-reunification generation, she left her homeland and only comes to visit for a milestone birthday. But everything that seemed safe crumbles within a few days: what remains is Tamara (Linda Pöppel) and her mother Barbara (Lina Wendel). The two struggle to maintain their relationship, which cannot be detached from the social developments in which the family was formed, grew and disintegrated. Now Tamara has to face what she has been running away from: her own history. She has to let go of what she has never experienced.
Jonas Walter tells this largely autobiographical story from the perspective of the post-reunification generation.
