Scott "Wino" Weinrich is a living legend. In a way, he is the American version of Lemmy and shares many traits with the late, much-loved metal icon. He was always a rebel, a maverick and an outsider in an outsider scene, pursuing his music without regard for popularity or acceptance. In the process, he became one of the early pioneers of American doom. All this began when he founded THE OBSESSED in the 70s, and then continued in his numerous other bands such as Saint Vitus or Spirit Caravan. An important part of the Washington/Maryland music scene in the 80's, his music earned the respect of metal, punk and crossover fans alike and was often referred to as doom metal. In retrospect, it was simply gritty, street-oriented American metal with a cynical bent and psychedelic flair that made him the unique and timeless heavy music icon he is today.
