With UNE SI LONGUE LETTRE, AFRIKAMERA presents the film adaptation of the successful 1979 novel by Senegalese author Mariama Bâ for the first time in Germany.

Ramatoulaye, a 50-year-old teacher, has been married to the lawyer Modou Fall for 25 years. The couple are very close and happy with their four children. When her husband unexpectedly marries a second woman - their daughter's best friend - Ramatoulaye's anger, frustration and disappointment are immense. In a series of letters to her friend Aïssatou, she reflects on her life with her polygamous husband, solidarity between women, female emancipation and the conflict between tradition and modernity.

Mariama Bâ was one of the first female novelists to describe the situation of women and their challenges in Senegalese and West African society at the time with both poignancy and empathy.

The film adaptation of UNE SI LONGUE LETTRE was the sensational success of the summer at the West African box office, outperforming Hollywood films in terms of viewership and at the same time being released without European distribution partners.

ANGELE DIABANG (*1979 in Dakar) studied at the Dakar Media Center, at La Fémis in Paris and at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy. She began her career as a camerawoman and editor before becoming a director. Her first short documentary MY BEAUTIFUL SMILE (2005) was shown at more than 50 festivals.
