Exhibition opening: Friday, February 27, 2026, 5 p.m.
From February 27 to November 22, 2026, the first blank space project in the Hannover Kiosk of the Historisches Museum will focus on Black Life.
In the exhibition OUR HANNOVER, the co-curators will present six contributions
diverse positions and perspectives on Hanover.
They tell the story of the exploitation of Black people. They show how Black communities made Hannover their place to live and work in the 1980s. They describe their current experiences of exclusion and otherness. They talk about trauma and ways of healing. They also explore questions of identity, belonging and home with young people.
The exhibition contributions are characterized by an empathetic and empowering attitude.
They open up a space for multi-layered voices on the Black past, present and future in Hanover. In this way, the exhibition OUR HANNOVER contributes to making the diversity of this city visible.
The HISTORICAL MUSEUM HANNOVER is a city museum for everyone in the city.
But do all people find themselves there? Which stories are told in the museum and which have so far remained silent?
In short: What gaps are there in the museum's collections and exhibitions?
that need to be filled in order to be able to tell the city's history in all its diversity?
How can these narratives be incorporated into the Historical Museum of the Future?
The HANNOVER KIOSK is the interim location of the HMH during the renovation and a suitable experimental space for exhibition projects that are developed together with groups from Hanover's urban society.
