'Prayer' is the name of the work by the Israeli composer Tzvi Avni, who wrote a fervent string song for his 'Prayer', which also echoes his intense preoccupation with the musical tradition of Eastern European Jews. The violin sonata 'La Follia' by Arcangelo Corelli, on the other hand, sounds like a compendium of baroque playing techniques, in which the simple theme is taken to ever new, virtuoso climaxes. Johann Sebastian Bach created one of the most popular solo concertos ever with his Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor. And just like Bach, who was a veritable violinist and often conducted the orchestra from the violin stand, Nikolai Mintchev, the Wuppertal concertmaster, takes on both the musical direction and the solo part. The program concludes with the Concerto Grosso in D major from George Frideric Handel's epochal Opus 6, a work that is one of the most successful contributions to the concerto repertoire.
