Adventure report

Analena and Verena take turns writing about untamed nature and its challenges, about anger and being overwhelmed, but also about joy and longing; about failure and success.
On the road every day for 2 summers, always out in the wild Canadian expanses, we not only discovered these legendary mountain regions, but also the distortions of our souls, the inherent power of body and mind and our infinitely deep connection. The travel adventure will be published with illustrations by Malik, Piper-Verlag, probably in June 2024 After Verena Schmidt loses her partner and her teenage daughter Analena loses her father, her world comes crashing down. When she receives an offer to write a Canada hiking guide for mountain publisher Rother, Verena doesn't hesitate for long. She and Analena spend the next two summers on trails and backcountry campsites in the Canadian Rockies. With backpacks that are far too heavy, the two of them fight their way over scree slopes and through snowfields, get caught in a snowstorm, sneak anxiously through puma areas and encounter bears. The constant togetherness is not without its conflicts, but both find strength in nature and movement, grieve together and experience many highly emotional moments together that weld them even closer together.

A hiking grouch & a hiking fan in the Rockies

As a 13-year-old, Analena Schmidt loves being outdoors if she is offered an exciting destination, such as the movie theater in the neighboring village. However, it usually only works with persuasion and for short distances. But hiking up a mountain with a heavy load only to descend straight away after looking down into the valley? Or climbing uphill and downhill for days on end in Canada? No, thank you. Her mother Verena Schmidt, on the other hand, can't get enough of hiking and traveling. Where might this path lead? What might be around the next bend? Just a little bit higher, a little bit further, a little bit more. And all this for two summers in the Rockies! How is that supposed to work?
