Run-down stores, strange signage, shady morticians, dodgy dance halls. The shabby and the bizarre are increasingly disappearing from these polished cities, and with them their charm and friendliness. For over 25 years, Jess Jochimsen has been roaming the urban hinterland and unearthing the dazzling, eerie and beautiful from the declining world of the suburbs.
AM RAND is an exhibition about the "defiant dignity" of the hinterland. A satirical declaration of love to the side of the cities that has turned away from the earth. "Jochimsen goes about his work as if he were looking for locations for a Tom Waits video in the Ruhr area." (FAZ)
Roger Willemsen wrote in 2007: "Jess Jochimsen's ethnological view of the country brings to light something of the real Germany that we see and usually overlook. It is bizarre and grotesque and ludicrous ... Grandiose: it is just like us. The demons of normality dwell in these images."
Music: to be announced.
Art in the club
Every two months we invite you to a vernissage in the Atelier Theater Klub. Visual artists enrich our theater atmosphere with their works and there are special musical contributions. The art in the club is then on display for around two months. Free admission to the vernissage.
