Viola Bittl, sieben jahre

With the solo exhibition sieben jahre, Walter Storms Galerie presents an overview of the works of Viola Bittl (born 1980) from the past seven years of her career. The exhibition marks a moment of retrospection that can be read as both an end point and a new beginning.

The title initially functions as a temporal bracket. sieben jahre understands time not as a linear narrative, but as a condensation. As a period in which processes, ideas and formal decisions are bundled and brought together in the exhibition. In Bittl's paintings, time is not depicted, but inscribed as a trace in the layering of paint.

In her paintings, Bittl takes up the intellectual clarity and reduced formal language of modernism. She questions the historical boundaries of abstraction and develops a pictorial aesthetic that combines geometric-biomorphic forms with art-historical references and renegotiates them.
