Wie Medien die Vergangenheit im Westbalkan erzählen - taz Talk mit der Organisation Pro Peace

In the organizer's words:

A taz Talk in cooperation with Pro Peace. Getoarbë Mulliqi, Dinko Gruhonjić and Alexander Vojvoda talk about media freedom, memory and responsibility in the Western Balkans.

Journalism in post-conflict societies is much more than a profession, journalistic work is a cornerstone of dealing with the past, giving voice to victims and survivors of human rights violations and holding perpetrators accountable. However, political influence, disinformation and historical revisionist narratives are putting critical and independent media and journalists in the Western Balkans under increasing pressure and they are increasingly the targets of verbal and physical attacks and assaults.

How can journalistic work contribute to taking responsibility for human rights violations in the Western Balkans that have still not been investigated, be a voice for victims and survivors and be part of a just reappraisal of the past?

How do media professionals in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia report on war, reappraisal and reconciliation under difficult political conditions and what structural changes are necessary to ensure media freedom and a culture of remembrance?

Following the discussion, there will be an opportunity to exchange views with the discussion partners.
