A musical reading by and with Mo Röttgen and Wolfgang Kienast

The series of popular reading evenings about wild plants and retro records will continue at the Literaturhaus Dortmund in 2026. Podcaster Mo Röttgen from "Kraut im Ohr. Dein Wildkräuterpodcast" and wild herb expert Wolfgang Kienast from "stadtwildkraut" will be hosting the program. On May 21, they will accompany you for the fourth time into the wonderful world of edible spontaneous urban vegetation. In an entertaining, informative and sometimes satirical way, they will report on cuisine and cultural history, talk about healing powers and legends and touch on both political and everyday topics. Of course, this evening's program will include texts that have not yet been read in the Literaturhaus and, of course, there will be new musical ingredients.

Mo and Wolfgang share a passion for stinging nettles, broadleaf plantain, goutweed and the like; they rediscover the vegetation in the city between manhole covers and cracks in walls. She writes expressive herb essays about them and he has been writing the popular wild herb columns for "bodo", the street magazine for Bochum, Dortmund and the surrounding area, for 16 years.

At the Literaturhaus, Wolfgang also plays the matching records. Sometimes it sounds soft, sometimes weird, sometimes pop and sometimes classical. After all, he is not least a DJ and owns perhaps the largest collection of rare German-language vinyl treasures, which have nothing less than wild herbs as their theme.

And this much can already be revealed: on May 21, the legendary mugwort will play a role, among other things. This herb, known since ancient times, described in the first herbal book in the German language, an ingredient in many magical recipes, has long since found its way onto supermarket spice shelves.
