Wir feiern Hanami!

In the organizer's words:

When spring arrives, we celebrate Hanami: the Japanese festival of cherry blossom. In three workshops, you can discover Japan in a creative and enjoyable way: With homemade onigiri, colorful cherry blossoms using the orizome technique and a hands-on chopstick workshop. There will also be stories, craft activities and exciting insights into Japanese culture and sustainable everyday materials.

Our program for you:

Workshop 1: Onigiri to listen to and taste
Friday, April 17, 2026, 5:00 pm
To start, we will read together from the picture book"The Bread Thief: The Journey of the Onigiri Boy" in German and Japanese. Afterwards, we will make our own onigiri, Japanese rice balls, and learn more about this popular snack and how to prepare it.

Workshop 2: Cherry blossoms times three: reading, cutting, coloring
Sunday, April 19, 2026, 5:00 p.m.
This workshop is all about the Japanese cherry blossom and the Hanami spring festival. After a picture book story, we will discover what distinguishes ornamental cherries from other types of cherries, why biodiversity is important and then create our own cherry blossoms using the orizome technique and natural dyes.

Workshop 3: Tomato meets chopsticks
Sunday, April 26, 2026, 5:00 p.m.
Based on the picture book"The Tomato Festival", we will try out together how to hold and use chopsticks correctly. Afterwards, we will test our skills in a small chopstick challenge and talk about how to recognize environmentally friendly and sustainable chopsticks.
