"Oh the reality, the reality!" - Roberto Arlt, The Seven Madmen (1929)
Roberto Arlt's story reads like a feverish dream: humiliated by his destitute existence on the fringes of an up-and-coming society, Remo Erdosain - debt collector and failed inventor - wanders through a Buenos Aires full of grand utopias and dystopian abysses.
His encounter with a strange secret organization promises salvation from the precarious "zone of fear" and the social upheaval from which he also hopes to benefit. Fascinated by the conspirators' plans for empowerment, Remo increasingly loses touch with reality.
Niklas Draeger and his team transfer the big city novel from the 1920s to a present day in which the interpretation of reality is becoming increasingly opaque and political decisions are increasingly being made on the basis of ideological narratives rather than realistic visions. A multimedia struggle with the political power of fiction.
