"Beyond Animal Testing - Between Progress and Responsibility" on November 4 live in the Hörsaalruine!

Medical breakthroughs such as vaccines or cancer drugs would hardly be conceivable without animal testing - at the same time, they are a moral dilemma. Nobody likes animal testing and in an ideal world it would be superfluous.

Thanks to new alternatives such as cell cultures and AI-supported simulations, this world is getting closer. But how advanced are these methods really? What can they achieve - and what are their limits?

Under the motto of Berlin Science Week 2025, "Beyond Now", we will discuss with experts the question of what comes after animal testing? And are we ready for this step?

We will take a look beyond with Dr. Louise von Stechow, bioscientist and expert in science communication and podcaster, Prof. Dr. Peter Loskill, Professor of Organ-on-Chip Research, Head of the 3R Center Tübingen for Alternatives to Animal Testing and science communicator, and Rachel Lippert, Junior Research Group Leader at the German Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbrücke (DIfE), among others.

The evening will be moderated by Amna Franzke, format developer at ZEIT, and Rahel Klein, presenter at Deutschlandfunk Nova.
