The Dresden band Woods of Birnam, led by singer and actor Christian Friedel (including The Zone of Interest, The White Lotus, Babylon Berlin), usually combine live concerts, theater and performance in their own productions like no other and regularly sell out houses. Their current album "Solaris" was created for a theater work based on Stanislaw Lem's novel at Schauspiel Frankfurt and is now the focus of their extremely rare band concerts. It is rare to experience the Woods of Birnam so close, intense and musically curious.
"Solaris" is an evening of contrasts - with a rousing band as a shadow, as an entity, as a figure of light. You can watch the musicians explore or let yourself drift through the atmospheric ocean of Polytheria on the planet Solaris. Older hits from Woods of Birnam are integrated as a matter of course or in some cases rearranged, as if they too had sprung from the Solaris world.
Christian Friedel does not play the front man in Woods of Birnam, but arranged and composed with the band and breathes the music with every single pore. The lyrics of "Solaris" come from fellow actor Robert Gwisdek. An inspiring, poetic, very special concert evening that will almost certainly not be repeated in this form.
