Young Talents: A Tribute to the Trombone - The music of Jay&Kai played by Annas/Armbruster/Kröger

Jay & Kai are regarded as the best-known and most successful trombone duo in jazz history. Behind this name are J. J. Johnson and Kai Winding - two outstanding trombonists of modern jazz who recorded numerous albums as a duo in the 1950s and 60s, always accompanied by a rhythm section. On this evening, the music of this legendary duo will be brought back to life at the King Georg by three up-and-coming young trombonists. Melker Annas, Carlotta Armbruster and Moritz Kröger met during their studies at the Cologne University of Music and Dance. All three are united by their enthusiasm for the jazz of this era and for the unmistakable sound of several trombones. They will play original arrangements by Jay & Kai as well as careful reinterpretations, supplemented by selected pieces from the repertoire for several trombones. The trio is supported by a top-class, energetic rhythm section: Benedikt Göb on piano, Jan Blikslager on bass and Niklas Wittig on drums. An evening that celebrates the trombone in all its facets!
