The Brücke Museum collects and researches the works of the artist group "Brücke".

The important Expressionist collection includes paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Erich Heckel, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Otto Mueller, Emil Nolde, Max Pechstein and others. Located in an idyllic setting on the edge of the Grunewald forest, visitors to the Brücke Museum can enjoy art, nature and architecture at the same time. The architecture, designed by Werner Düttmann, blends harmoniously into the surrounding pine landscape and reveals itself as a modern, human and intimate building that serves the art it houses. The Brücke Museum opened its doors to the public on September 15, 1967. It was initiated by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, who three years earlier had offered to donate works by the Brücke group of artists to the state of Berlin - on the condition that a museum would be built. In addition to Schmidt-Rottluff, Brücke colleague Erich Heckel also generously supported the new museum with donations. To this day, the collection continues to grow through donations and acquisitions. Due to the size of the collection, only a small part of the holdings can be exhibited on the 460 m² of exhibition space. Therefore, the museum shows changing thematic collection presentations. In addition, contemporary artists are also invited to engage artistically with the works of the Brücke. The first of these was Sol Calero in spring 2018, who created a walk-in three-dimensional painting in the garden of the Brücke Museum with her colorful pavilion Casa Isadora, which can be visited until 2020.
