Since its foundation in 2006, D21 Kunstraum e. V. has been promoting national and international artistic positions. In various exhibition formats for media art, film and video, photography, installation and performance, in events such as festivals, symposia, film series and workshops as well as in publications and residencies, the D21 Kunstraum acts as a presentation and discourse platform for the negotiation of relevant socio-political issues. Through its continuous presence in the Leipzig art scene and within the framework of several projects, collaborations with art and cultural initiatives in Germany and abroad have been established.

The D21 Kunstraum does not see itself as static - we are interested in impulses and in reacting to our immediate local, cultural and political environment. In its more than 15-year history, the D21 Kunstraum has often devoted itself to experimental, interdisciplinary and process-oriented approaches and is constantly searching for new forms of art mediation.

In 2021, D21 took over the sponsorship of the f/stop Festival for Photography Leipzig and is working on its further development into a regional, national and international festival that not only cultivates a discursive approach, but also combines opposites: East and West, local and international, subject-specific and target group-wide, emphasizing the process but also posing theses.
