Welcome to the 37th Turkish Film Festival Munich!

You can expect 10 days full of exciting events that invite you to immerse yourself in the film landscapes from and about Turkey.
This year we can look forward to many guests from the Turkish film industry, including the renowned Turkish actress Nur Sürer.

With her keen eye for the unusual, director Pelin Esmer takes us into a world of storytelling between truth and fantasy. When the successful Istanbul director Levent is a guest at the film festival in the small town of Söke, he comes into contact with the hotel employee Aliye. The woman, twenty years his junior, initially appears to Levent only as a hand behind a curtain in the hotel bar, through which she clears away used glasses. Aliye, on the other hand, knows Levent's films well and regularly eavesdrops on the hotel guests from her hiding place. Inspired by this, she begins to develop a life story for herself between reality and fiction, which she documents in short audio and video messages. She sends these to Levent, who is looking for a leading actress for his new film. At a time in his life when Levent's married life in Istanbul seems to be coming to an end, the director loses himself more and more in Aliye's stories. The intimate messages create a connection between these two different lives that seems to have the power to overcome spatial and social boundaries. Levent and Aliye have to decide between reality and fiction.

Yönetmen Pelin Esmer, bu filminde izleyiciyi gerçek ile hayal arasındaki sınırların giderek belirsizleştiği bir hikâye anlatımının içine davet eder. İstanbullu başarılı yönetmen Levent, Söke'de düzenlenen bir film festivaline konuk olur. Kaldığı otelde çalışan Aliye ise Levent'in varlığından habersizmiş gibi görünse de, onun filmlerini yakından tanımakta ve otel misafirlerini perde arkasından gizlice dinleyerek kendine yeni bir yaşam öyküsü kurmaktadır. Gerçek ile kurgu arasında gidip gelen bu hikâyeyi kısa ses ve video kayıtlarıyla belgeleyen Aliye, bunları yeni filmi için başrol oyuncusu arayan Levent'e gönderir. İstanbul'daki evliliği sarsıntıdayken, Levent giderek Aliye'nin anlattığı öykülerin büyüsüne kapılır. İki farklı dünyaya ait bu iki insan arasında, fiziksel ve toplumsal mesafeleri aşan tuhaf ve kırılgan bir bağ oluşur. Bu bağ, onları kaçınılmaz bir soruyla karşı karşıya bırakır: Gerçeği mi seçecekler, yoksa kurdukları hikâyeye mi sığınacaklar?
