Nominated for the Mülheim Children's Play Prize 2026: "Buddeln" by Clara Leinemann

Where is Olm? Olm, who Melek and Noa have always played with. When the latter finds out that he is literally burying himself in his room, they decide to search for him in the shallows. The goal: to find their way back to the surface between the Rat King and the Giant Mole. The author, who was born in Cologne in 1994 and wrote prose and drama texts after studying creative writing in Hildesheim, presents a drama that is as fast-paced as it is poignant with "Buddeln", which tells of depression in children in a highly condensed metaphorical way. What helps against it? Ultimately, the power of friendship. Only through Melek and Noa does Olm become a hero, or a person who survives. (Björn Hayer, selection committee "KinderStücke" 2026)
