AFERIM! is a historical drama from 2015 by Romanian film director Radu Jude. The film focuses on the society of Wallachia in the early 19th century and shows the journey of the gendarme Costandin and his son Ioniță, who are searching for an escaped slave, a Rom. During their journey, they encounter a multitude of people of different nationalities and faiths, who are often confronted with prejudice and lawlessness. The film addresses the brutal conditions and lack of rights of the Roma slaves and provides a profound insight into the society of the time.
