Amanda has a powerful, slightly raspy voice, a feeling for catchy melodies and the ability to conjure up roots pop arrangements that immediately get into your blood. In 2014, she won the Canadian Folk Music Award for Aboriginal Songwriter of the Year and was nominated for the Juno Award. She was also shortlisted by the Council for the Arts for Ottawa's RBC Emerging Artist Award.
In 2007 she released her first EPs and the following year she received tremendous financial support when she won $40,000 in the 2008 Big Money Shot competition organized by radio station Live 88.5. She quickly made a name for herself in Ottawa as a generous, community-minded artist and activist, helping to organize the Babes for Breasts concert and related album projects; leading the charge at Ottawa's Bluebird North songwriter showcases; performing three times for troops stationed in Afghanistan; raising money for the families of military personnel; and selling 6,500 Christmas EPs in Ottawa alone to raise money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ottawa.
