Ausstellungseröffnung und Kuratorenführung mit Dr. Frank Mäuer „Ans Licht! Objekte und Geschichte(n) aus der Sammlung des Oberschlesischen Landesmuseums“

On the occasion of International Museum Day 2026, the exhibition opening "Ans Licht! Objects and History(ies) from the Collection of the Upper Silesian State Museum", accompanied by a curator's tour with Dr. Frank Mäuer.

In over 40 years, the Upper Silesian State Museum in Ratingen has built up an extensive collection: including paintings and prints, sculptures and sculptures, faience and porcelain, textiles and traditional costumes as well as numerous documents of various kinds. This collection is the heart and soul of the museum's work - and the "toolbox" with which history is told. However, many of the more than 15,000 objects are stored in warehouses and depots and usually remain hidden from visitors. The special exhibition brings a selection of these pieces "into the light" and at the same time takes a look at the museum's own collection history.

Significant objects from the museum's storerooms are on display, giving an impression of the thematic breadth and artistic diversity of the collection: Paintings and graphic works with landscapes, views and people from Upper Silesia; sculptures, sculptures and reliefs made of materials such as bronze, wood, ceramics or coal; personal donations in which history is reflected in individual memories; as well as drawings, plans, pictures and models that tell of farmhouses and tenement houses, churches, schools, railroad stations or government buildings. The objects are not presented as a loose sequence, but in meaningful contexts and organized thematically. Through targeted selection, series and contrasts as well as cross-connections between different genres and genres, themes that have characterized the museum's educational work for decades become visible.
