Doppelkonzert: YĪN YĪN with: Kazdoura (NL/CAN)

In the organizer's words:

When YĪN YĪN take to the stage, it quickly becomes clear: this band thinks groove globally. With Yatta!, the quartet from Maastricht presents its fourth album and expands its unmistakable mix of disco, funk, psychedelia and influences from Southeast Asia. Over the past few years, YĪN YĪN has gained an international reputation as an exceptional live band - with appearances at festivals such as Paradiso, Lowlands, the North Sea Jazz Festival and Japan's Fuji Rock as well as tours through Europe, Asia and North America. The impressions of these journeys have audibly flowed into the new songs.

A formative influence on Yatta! is the sound of Italo disco - the cosmically shimmering, psychedelic disco variant that emerged in Italy at the end of the 1970s and experienced its heyday in the 1980s. For YĪN YĪN, this remains a secret to this day: back then, producers experimented with new studio techniques, effects and sound ideas, but few images or videos from these sessions exist. Much is left to the imagination - and it is precisely this imagination that can be heard in the new tracks: endless grooves, shimmering synthesizer pads and guitars that glide through psychedelic soundscapes.

Since an experimental jam session in a remote ballet school, from which the debut album The Rabbit That Hunts Tigers emerged, the band has continued to develop. This was followed by The Age of Aquarius (2022) and Mount Matsu (2024), before Yatta! was released, their most cohesive work to date.

Musically, YĪN YĪN follow an imaginary route from Italy eastwards through Asia: some tracks sound like the soundtrack to a Japanese soul-funk spy movie from the 1960s, others like the pulsating disco accompaniment to a Thai spaghetti western. Yatta! combines energetic dancefloor moments with relaxed, atmospheric passages - music that is just as suitable for dancing as it is for diving in. Yatta! is the sound of four musicians who have found their own global groove - curious, energetic and full of joy in playing. And the Kulturzelt Kassel will be part of this musical journey for one evening.

The evening kicks off with the band Kazdoura from Toronto. Their sound combines Arabic sound traditions with psychedelic rock, funk and electronic grooves - hypnotic, rhythmic and just as cosmopolitan as the music of YĪN YĪN. Together, the two bands build a bridge between cultures, styles and continents.

The concert is unseated. (However, there are seats in the stands for early birds)
