What it's about

"Dzudza" rises directly from the vibrant streets of Maputo and tells a powerful story of upliftment, community and resistance. Body, movement and song merge into a poetic choreography that floods the stage like a living sea. Inspired by church hymns, children's games and traditional folk songs, the performance creates a space in which spirituality, everyday life and identity intertwine. A central symbol is the capulana - the traditional Mozambican fabric. It envelops the dancers and stands for connection, protection and overcoming rigid boundaries between male and female, local and global.

Experience a performance that breaks down familiar images and opens up completely new perspectives on togetherness. Under the direction of internationally acclaimed choreographer Idio Chichava, the group Converge+ shows how contemporary dance from Mozambique answers global questions about belonging. The production is far more than a dance performance; it is a ritual experience that draws the audience into a maelstrom of rhythm and visual aesthetics. Anyone who wants to know how resistance takes shape through pure vitality and collective movement should not miss this German premiere.

The group Converge+ is celebrated worldwide for its energetic works, most recently for "Vagabundes". "Dzudza" is part of their major European tour in 2026. Choreographer Idio Chichava knows better than almost anyone how to interweave the aesthetics of African traditions with the visual habits of contemporary European stage art.

Information on accessibility

No/little language. The introduction and audience discussion will be held in English without translation .

Duration: approx. 60 minutes

The performance will be accompanied by an audio description.

The auditorium is barrier-free. There is a wheelchair-accessible toilet.

We can reserve wheelchair-accessible seats or accessible seats for you.

You can bring your own headphones to use the audio description. The connection works via a simple mini-jack plug.

People with a hearing aid can use the hearing system. The hearing system works via induction.

The parking spaces at the venue are suitable for people with disabilities.

The various support requirements can be specified when purchasing tickets. This allows us to be well prepared.

Guide dogs and assistance dogs are very welcome. Please let us know if you are bringing a dog to the performance.
