What it's about

"Work Body" finds its inspiration in Pier Paolo Pasolini's poem "Le ceneri di Gramsci" (The Ashes of Gramsci). Pasolini dedicated these lines to the Marxist thinker and co-founder of the Italian Communist Party, Antonio Gramsci - who, just like the choreographer Michael Turinsky himself, lived with a physical disability. Turinsky uses this sensual-intellectual homage to find an artistic response to the current shift to the right in the working class milieu and the associated fantasies of masculinity. At the center is Gramsci's concept of "buon senso": the authentic core in the experience of the working class.

That's why you have to go inside

How do political convictions and personal desire combine? And what becomes of the desire for community in a world that exploits everything? Turinsky responds with dance, song and movement. Work and play, choreography and concert, politics and performance merge on stage. Work Body invites you to experience camaraderie, desire and resistance in a new way.

Michael Turinsky is one of the most influential voices in contemporary dance and the disability arts scene. In his works, he combines philosophical rigor with intense physical presence. "Work Body" is not just a performance, but a passionate plea for an aesthetic of resistance that understands the disabled body as a powerful political subject.

Information on accessibility

Duration: approx. 60 minutes

The performance is accompanied by an audio description as well as an introduction and an audience discussion in difficult language.

You can bring your own headphones to use the audio description. The connection works via a simple mini-jack plug.

The event room is barrier-free. There is a wheelchair-accessible toilet.

We can reserve wheelchair-accessible seats or accessible seats for you.

The event room is equipped with a WLAN-based hearing system.

People with a hearing aid can use the hearing system. The hearing system works via induction.

The parking spaces at the venue are suitable for people with disabilities.

Guide dogs and assistance dogs are welcome. Please let us know if you are bringing a dog to the performance.

The various support requirements can be specified when purchasing tickets. This way we can prepare well.

Please let us know if you would like to be picked up from the nearest bus or train stop and accompanied to the event.
