Eine Mutter kämpft gegen Hitler - Patricia Litten liest aus dem Buch ihrer Großmutter

The actress Patricia Litten will be reading from her grandmother Irmgard Litten's book "A Mother Fights Hitler" on Friday, June 12, at 7 p.m. in Borbeck Castle. This book, written in emigration, commemorates the lawyer Hans Litten, who died in the Dachau concentration camp in 1938.

Hans Litten, a young, committed lawyer, made a name for himself as a great opponent of the Nazi regime and as a "lawyer for the proletariat". In May 1931, he dared not only to bring Hitler to the witness stand, but also to present him at the Edenpalast trial. Driven into a corner by the defense lawyer's questions, Hitler became entangled in lies under oath and angrily insulted Hans Litten. Hitler never forgave him for this humiliation. Hans Litten was arrested by the Nazi regime on the very night of the Reichstag fire.

Since the day of his arrest, Irmgard Litten had done everything she could to free her son from the clutches of the Nazis, without success. After five years of torture in various prisons and concentration camps, Hans Litten took his own life in Dachau concentration camp on February 5, 1938.

Patricia Litten, Irmgard Litten's granddaughter and Hans Litten's niece, tells this family story with great personal depth. Her father, Rainer Litten, who was an aspiring actor and director at the time, also became the focus of the National Socialists after his brother was arrested and was removed from all cast lists. He was able to flee to Switzerland in time, where he found a new home in Lucerne.

The reading will be accompanied musically by cellist Birgit Saemann, whose playing underlines the emotional depth of the texts once again. Complementary image projections allow this extraordinary family history to be experienced even more intensely.
