The Spirit of Hanse - eine musikalische Reise durch die Hansestädte mit Semjon Kalinowsky und Paul Kayser

On a musical journey through the former Hanseatic cities, from Hamburg, Lübeck and London via Lüneburg, Oslo and Halle to Deventer and Venice, the Hanseatic spirit - The Spirit of Hanse- will be heard on Friday, June 19, at 7 p.m. in Borbeck Castle. In addition to original rarities from the Baroque and Romantic periods, Semjon Kalinowsky (viola) and Paul Kayser (organ) will also present their own arrangements that echo the musical wealth of the Hanseatic cities.

Not only trade and change, but also art and culture connected the Hanseatic cities over long distances. The Hanseatic League promoted the development of a cultural flowering whose influence was felt long after the end of the union.

Violist Semjon Kalinowsky received his artistic training at the Lviv State Academy of Music. He performs worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician, is dedicated to rediscovering forgotten works and enriches the repertoire with his own arrangements.

Organist Paul Kayser studied church music and artistic training in Frankfurt as well as improvisation at the Berlin University of the Arts. Today he is the titular organist of the church of St. Alfons in Luxembourg City, where he also teaches at the Lycée classique de Diekirch. He regularly gives concerts at home and abroad.

The program includes compositions for viola and organ as well as for solo organ by Dietrich Buxtehude, Henry Eccles, Georg Friedrich Händel, Alessandro Marcello, Johan Severin Svendsen, Jan Pieterszoon Sweenlinck and Georg Philipp Telemann.
