Simple language: Emil Brandqvist is a drummer. He and 2 others make music together. It's called a trio. They play piano, drums and bass.

The Emil Brandqvist Trio, consisting of the Swedish drummer Emil Brandqvist, the Finnish pianist Tuomas A. Turunen and the Swedish bassist Max Thornberg, is one of the leading European piano jazz formations.

The trio's music combines elements of jazz, classical music and Nordic folklore, carried by atmospheric harmonies and a deeply felt sense of melody. At the same time, the trio remains stylistically challenging and yet very accessible.

With their latest album Poems for Travellers (April 2025), the three musicians concentrate exclusively on their playing together for the first time and have now finally crowned their success story of over ten years by reaching number 1 in the German jazz charts.
