To get in the mood for the two major events, the Football World Cup and PROSANOVA26, a live edition of the FASHION THE GAZE podcast is dedicated to queer literature that addresses sport as a social space and event.

In a research context, literary texts are often examined in terms of their style or formal quality. But they achieve more: the author's focused gaze brings everyday details into new contexts. Cheering with the soccer team can suddenly be crucial to understanding a character. A brief phone call at a public viewing indicates a deep conflict. At such points, literature becomes an instrument of translation. The inconspicuous is translated into scenarios that go far beyond their triviality and deal with social issues.

To explore this phenomenon further, FASHION THE GAZE invites you to a live podcast with readings by Duygu Ağal and Hannah Beckmann. Co-hosts Freya Hermann and Vera Klocke have been inspiring an ever-growing audience with their curiosity and analytical precision since 2020. In over 60 episodes, they discuss contemporary pop cultural phenomena. Short videos from TikTok, Instagram or YouTube, films or current fashion trends become the object of their investigation. What political and social implications can be read from them?

The texts by Duygu Ağal and Hannah Beckmann provide impulses and starting points for the discussion. In her debut "Yeni Yeşerenler (The Reborn, Getting Leaves, Turning Green)", Ağal deals with lesbian love, women's soccer, friendship, violence and emancipation, among other things. In her prize-winning text "Fortuna" at the 33rd Open Mike, Hannah Beckmann also explored soccer as a space for queer experiences and the doubts, worries and moments of courage that come with it. The evening takes a look at the disciplining of queer bodies in the context of their society, their challenges and the desire to transform, optimize and change the body.

The evening is a cooperation with the PROSANOVA - Festival for Young Literature, which takes place in Hildesheim from July 3 to 5, 2026. With experimental readings by published and unpublished authors and artists from music, film, art and dance, it offers three days of time and space to discover the unexpected and share the familiar.
