In this production, Goethe's classic is presented in a radically condensed version.

The focus is on the scholar Faust, who strives for universal knowledge, for the penetration of the ultimate. Earth spirit: You resemble the spirit you comprehend, not me! Faust: Not you? Who then? I, the image of the deity! Around Faust's study, the further course of events appears in dramatic flash-forwards: the tragedy of Gretchen, evoked by a chorus in the mode of gloomy forebodings or certainties. It ultimately opens up horizons of allusion to the great catastrophes of humanity, which continue to have an effect in our time.
