QUEERHISTORYMONTH

QueerHistoryMonth will take place in Hamburg from May 1 to 31, 2026(www.queerhistoryhamburg.de). Various events as part of the festival will bring the history(ies) of the queer community in Hamburg to life. Everyone is welcome - kings, queers, queens, allies, friends, families (of choice) and everyone in between and beyond!

The event

In 2026, Hamburg will once again send a strong signal for diversity and against discrimination! The LSVD+ Hamburg and 105 partners invite you to take part in the RainbowFlash at the Rathausmarkt.

On May 17, 2026, we will set a visible sign for diversity, human rights and against discrimination: At the 18th RainbowFlash, a large rainbow flag will once again be formed in front of Hamburg City Hall.

The action will take place as part of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). The day of action commemorates May 17, 1990, when the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from its diagnostic code for diseases. To this day, the day draws attention to violence and discrimination against LGBTQIA+ people worldwide.

The IDAHOBIT 2026 motto is At the heart of democracy. It is a reminder that democratic societies are only strong if they are based on equality, respect and justice for all people.

Together, we will line up with colored cardboard to form a large rainbow flag - a visible sign for acceptance and against queer hostility.

Everyone is cordially invited to join in! Come along, fly the flag together and make Hamburg visibly colorful for love, diversity and respect!

• 17:00 - Preparation begins: Arrival and distribution of the colorful cardboards
• 18:00 - Welcome and short speeches
• approx. 18:20 - Rainbowflash action with photo and video recordings
• approx. 18:45 - End of the event

Location: Rathausmarkt 1, 20095 Hamburg

Responsible organization: LSVD+ Hamburg

Participation is free of charge. Registration is not required. The event is barrier-free. The speeches will be translated into German Sign Language (DGS ) by sign language interpreters.
