Jubiläumskonzert 75 Jahre MKO

In the organizer's words:

75 YEARS OF WONDERLAND

A big anniversary needs to be celebrated in a big way. The cast alone - with a top-class line-up of soloists and the wonderful Tölz Boys' Choir - is as exquisite as the occasion. In Jörg Widmann, the conductor is a personality who has been associated with the MKO for decades. At the anniversary concert, his keen and much-praised Mendelssohn reflection with the MKO will reach a new high point. Widmann's 'Peace Cantata' will also be at the center of the evening. First performed in Leipzig's St. Thomas Church in 2023, the work uses texts from the Bible as well as from Matthias Claudius, Jean Paul, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Bertolt Brecht and Paul Gerhardt. They revolve around war and peace, death and reconciliation. Musically, Widmann takes up the cantata 'Die Elenden sollen essen', with which Bach officially took up his post as Thomaskantor in 1723. In the highly divided here and now of our time, Widmann's message of peace becomes a strong plea for confidence - a hopeful 'Dona nobis pacem'.

The concert introduction with Dr. Meret Forster will take place at 7.15 pm in the hall and is free of charge for all concertgoers.

The concert will be broadcast live on BR-Klassik.
